    What should every Freshman know?

    1) Procrastination and/or being lazy is a bad idea. It may seem to make school less stressful now, but it will come back to bite you in the butt. You don’t wanna be a junior or a senior and still taking 6 or 7 courses and going to Adult Education on top of that. Trust me, I know from experience.
    2) If you stock up on regular school supplies such as pens and college-ruled paper now, you won’t have to go back to Staples or Office Depot in the middle of the semester, because you will go through that stuff fast. If you go on the day school starts, most of the stuff will be on sale as well.
    3) Don’t forget the markers or colored pencils. Believe it or not, you will use them.
    4) Find a stress reliever or a “rock.” For me, it is riding my horse and reading. For some of my friends it is running. For others, it is art or writing. For some, it is dance. Finding an activity like one of these will provide a temporary escape for when things get stressful. Believe me, things will get stressful.
    5) Planning ahead is a great idea. Nobody said that you, as a freshman need to know EXACTLY what you’re going to do with your life, but you should have a plan for when you’re a sophomore or a junior, or have somewhat of an idea of what you want to do after high school.
    6) Always go the extra mile, don’t just do the bare minimum. The minimum for community service hours here is 75. Why just stick with 75 when you could easily do 100? Or 120? Why leave that poster assignment as just a pencil and pen outline when you could color it in, or maybe add some glitter? Going the extra mile on things like that shows teachers you’re determined to get a good grade.
    7) Get your hours done. Community service is not hard. It sounds like it might be, but it’s not. There are many options for you to choose from, from beach clean-up to the animal shelter. Don’t be one of those seniors that had come into their final year with zero hours. Just get it done while you still have time, and who knows? You might like it.
    8) If you don’t have time to get things done, you make time. Learning how to manage your time wisely will help you a lot. When done correctly, you can get homework done and still have time to spend time with friends and family, or maybe sleep.
    9) Learn to cite your sources, both in-text and in a works cited. They will teach you as a freshman but it is an important thing to learn and remember so that you don’t get written up for plagiarism, as you will be citing sources all four years. Also, when they teach you MLA formatting, remember it, because you will use that all four years as well.
    10) Teachers like it when you take the theme or whatever book you’re reading for class and connect it either to yourself or to other pieces of work. It tells them that you understand the text and that you are thinking about it.

In the beginning of the year start out strong the first month! You don't want to fall behind because its hard to get ahead. Also do the homework, we have two days to do it so it should be done by the due date. If you don't do it then you could turn it in late but it still brings down your grade. It helps to make renaissance because you get treats and you get this paper that has two oops passes, two late assignments, one front of the line at lunch, and you get to have a do over(no tests). If you don't get what you are learning there is plenty of opportunities to learn and get help. At times things get really stressful but try not to because everything will work out. Also stay away from drama because that just adds on to your stress. Join a club and make new friends. If you're shy then open up and try new things. Have fun and don't wish away your year because it goes by fast. Finally finish out strong and don't get lazy because you will regret having those bad grades.

    Personal Reflection
One thing i'm proud of for accomplishing this year would be finishing all my homework, and even though it’s late sometimes i still turn it in. Another thing would be trying to get involved into the activities that are put on at school. Lastly I’m very glad that I tried to make new friends. I made the mistake of not trying my best and not really caring about my grades later on in the year. I regret this because it was a big hassle to try and get my grades up so I wouldn’t fall behind in class. I learned to stay on task in class and always do your homework so you can learn more. I have friends who support me and help me in school. Their the family that you get to choose that will be by your side when you need them. Theres only one person outside of school that I can trust with anything and I tell everything to. I can count on that person when no one else could.

    1. Turn in homework on time
    2. Get help from teachers
    3. Try to make new friends
    4. Get involved
    5. Be yourself
    6. Stay organized
    7. Pay attention in class
    8. Take notes
    9. Join clubs
    10. Get noticed
    Quarter 4 Goals
This quarter I want to get better grades than in the past, finish all my homework, and study the material from class. I plan on trying to get more involved to get noticed in school, try my best at everything, and not slack off in anything.
    Next School Year
Next year I want to do my best in intermediate algebra, world history and chemistry. I will study and understand what is taught in class so I will pay attention, take notes, and participate more.

    1) DO NOT PROCRASTINATE, you will definitely regret it later.

    2) Get to know your counselors, they’re there to help you, so don’t ignore them.

    3) Join clubs and teams! You meet new people

    4) Make new friends because there is no limit!

    5) STUDY FOR TESTS because they count a lot for your grade

    6) Do the best that you can in school, don’t slack off.

    7) It’s never too early to think about which college/s you want to go to!

    8) During FIRE, go to your teachers if you need help. Don’t just guess on the homeworks.

    9) Try not to use homework passes (unless you REALLY need to), because if you skip out on homework, you miss a WHOLE lesson.

    10) Try and finish your 75 community service hours early in your 4 years here.

    What Every Freshman Should Know?

1.DON’T PROCRASTINATE: Other things may seem important or fun, but if you get the work out of the way early you can enjoy those things a lot more than with homework haunting you.

2.SCHOOl FIRST FRIENDS SECOND: Right now it seems like the most important thing in the world to have friends and hang out with friends, but by the end of the year you will have wished you studied for you Biology test instead of texting your friend all night.

3.RESPECT YOUR TEACHERS: In elementary school and middle school, you learn to hate teachers, but in High School. Having a good relationship with your teacher could be the diffirence between a C and an A if you are able to comfortably talk to your teacher you will be able to take in what he or she is teaching at a much higher level.

4.JOIN A CLUB: You don’t want to be that kid with no friends do you? Clubs are a great way to meet new people who share the same interests as you before joining the GWAT club I was the only person I knew who cared about the environment and Doctor Who.

5.KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GETTING INTO: Take a second and think “Am able to take honours english and do sports and be in Bioscience?” I mean, I’m only halfway through this and I’m struggling.

6:STAY SUPPLIED: It sucks being that kid who asks for a pencil and a piece of paper in EVERY class.

7: GET SLEEP: There are enough hours in the day for you to do Homework, do enjoyable things and get 8 or more hours of sleep a night. Not sleeping will make your day harder and keep you less motivated (perfect time for a transition)

8:STAY MOTIVATED: If you have a D or an F in a class don’t give up, that will just keep the grade there, no matter what’s going on, if you stay motivated you can get through almost anything

9:USE YOUR RESOURCES: The school provides you with an hour 4 days a school week to catch up on homework and get things done USE FIRE, the school has a library with books on anything you might have a test on USE THE LIBRARY. The teachers put their agendas and assignments on the FTHS wiki USE THE WIKI!

10:DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB: second rule: DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB.

  30. What every freshman should know:

    1. Stay Organized. Organization is really important in high school. If you’re not organized, school gets a whole lot harder. Keep everything you get at school in a binder, with tabs, so you’re not always looking for your papers.

2.Get involved. Getting involved in high school can be really fun. It can be a little scary starting a new school with little, or no friends, being involved in a club at school is a good place to meet a lot of nice, and fun people who share the same interests as you.

3.Don’t freak out! Sometimes school can get really stressful and complicated, but just do yourself a favor and don’t freak out, freaking out only makes it worse.

4.Be prepared. Don’t be the person who always has to ask for papers, pencil, erasers, ect. Come prepared, so you don’t have to be that person.

5.No friends is better that bad friends. Surround yourself with people who like you for you.

    6. Write in your planner. Sometimes block schedule can get confusing and you forget what assignment is due on what day. If you write in your planner you won’t forget, because you can always look back and check the date.

    7. Teachers are your friends. In middle school a lot of kids think teachers are out to get them, really the teachers just care. At Foothill the teachers are always here to help, inspire, or just be your friend, so don’t be scared of your teachers!

    8. Use your time in FIRE. A lot of people just sit around and talk in FIRE, but really FIRE can be really helpful. Your FIRE leaders are always there to help you with homework, so take advantage of FIRE. It can be a really good time to do homework and get help.

    9. Keep your smile. I know high school can be stressful, but through all the pressure and stress, just keep a smile! it will make things a whole lot easier.

    10. Just be yourself. Don’t act like someone you’re not. Foothill is a really accepting school, and people will like you just the way you are. I promise. :)
